New Delhi October 12, 2008
CyberMedia, Asia's largest specialty media house, has launched an SMS based news service to cover the latest in the world of mobile gadgets, in association with MyToday Dailies, India's fastest-growing opt-in SMS service.
With this service, mobile users can get the latest updates from the world of gadgets, free of charge. CyberMedia will use its vast network of 15 publications and over 100 technology reporters to serve readers through this rapidly emerging mobile news medium.
To sign up for the free updates, all that a mobile phone user needs to do is to SMS START MOBILE <CITY> to 09845298452 e.g. START MOBILE MUMBAI. The service can be stopped at anytime by sending the message STOP MOBILE to the same number.
Subscribers will receive the latest news on gadgets, mobile phone, handheld devices, printers, PCs, laptops, games free of cost.
Commenting on this service, Mr. Prasanto K Roy, Chief Editor, CyberMedia's technology publications said, "For a big chunk of India's 300 million mobile phone users, SMS is the most widely used feature after voice. This is a simple, elegant way to get instant updates on just-launched gadgets, and Netcore has shown how rapidly this medium can proliferate through word of mouth alone."
Speaking about the launch of this new channel on its 25 channel service, Mr. Rajesh Jain, founder of Netcore said, "The non intrusive nature of MyToday dailies with its opt-in feature has made it a major success, taking it to nearly 4 million users across the channels. This bouquet will be enhanced by CyberMedia's in-depth technology understanding."
Here's how the service works:
-
To activate the service SMS START MOBILE <CITY> to 09845298452 e.g. START Mobile MUMBAI
-
The subscribers will receive a confirmation and welcome message and will start receiving gadget news and updates from Living Digital free of cost.
-
The service can be discontinued at any time by sending an SMS STOP Mobile to 09845298452
-
The subscriber will not be charged for the updates.
-
The subscriber pays normal SMS charges to activate the service, for the start-up SMS (and once more for the stop SMS, if she stops.)
The service is free for the user, and is advertisement-supported: the SMS alerts carry small text ads at the end.
CyberMedia also powers the TECH channel on MyToday, with daily SMS news alerts from the world of infotech and telecom.
The GSM Association, the mobile world's largest trade body, recently voted Netcore's MyToday Dailies as one of the select few "True Mobile Start-ups" in the mobile world.
